Congratulations to Midget A1! After winning 4 -2 over New West A1, our Midget A1 team has secured themselves a seat in the BC Provincial Championships to be held in Port Coquitlam March 19 to 23rd!

PCAHA Scholarship Program deadline March 31, 2016

Each year the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association awards a number of scholarships in recognition of academic achievement and community/school service combined with participation in Minor Hockey, to PCAHA-registered players in the Midget and Juvenile divisions who are in Grade 11 or 12 or graduated from high school. 

Please find below a link to a copy of a letter directed to Midget and Juvenile players within your Association, together with a copy of the PCAHA Scholarship Program guidelines and application form. 

It should be noted that playing ability or competitive level is not a consideration. All PCAHA-registered Midgets and Juveniles who are in Grade 11 or 12 or graduated from high school may apply. 

The closing date for submission of scholarship applications is Thursday, March 31, 2016. Applications must be received at the PCAHA Office on or before that date to be eligible for consideration.

3 VMHA Midget C Players win Scholarships

A big thank you to Karin Turchet for volunteering and helping to organize the game at Killarney, and to David Jang for coaching one of the teams.

The Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association annually hosts Scholarship Tournaments in the Midget and Juvenile divisions to promote the ideals of scholastic achievements and sportsmanship combined with participation in Minor Hockey. The 10th Annual Joe Morellato Midget “C” Scholarship Tournament was played December 7-13, 2015. The event is held by Presidents “C” League with games hosted by the Minor Hockey Associations comprising the League – Arbutus Club MHA, Burnaby MHA, Burnaby Winter Club MHA, New Westminster MHA, Richmond MHA, Seafair MHA, Vancouver MHA and Vancouver Thunderbird MHA. Participation is open to Midget “C” players. The games are played according to Contact rules (nonbodychecking), the emphasis is on FUN and SAFE hockey. The tournament is named in honour of Joe Morellato, who served as Chairman and Managing Director of Presidents “C” League from the mid-1970’s until 2007 and who was a tireless promoter of “C” hockey during his 40+ years of involvement in amateur hockey. He advocated equal treatment for all players regardless of competitive level and worked behind the scenes to ensure access to the game for less privileged members of the community. His contribution to Minor Hockey was recognized by the PCAHA membership in May, 2007, when they elected him a Life Member of the PCAHA. 

Nine Special Bursary Awards in the amount of $500.00 were awarded, these Special Bursaries were donated by the Minor Hockey Associations comprising Presidents “C” League. One Special Bursary was awarded to each of the three players on each team adjudged to have best exemplified excellence and sportsmanship during the course of the Tournament. Special Bursary Awards must be applied by the recipients towards post-secondary study according to the guidelines of the PCAHA Scholarship Program.

Midget A2 Win Gold at Cloverdale Tournament

Our Midget A2's took part in the Cloverdale Tournament this past weekend.  The team went 6-0 to  win the Championship game against a gritty Surrey A3 team.  Congratulations, to all the players on an outstanding display of perseverance and team play.
