2026 Pre-Season Programs

Get ready for the upcoming season with VMHA's Pre-Season Programs. Running over two weeks in late August at Killarney and Britannia, these camps combine skating fundamentals, skill development, and high-tempo, game-ready training in a fun, supportive environment.

All participants must be fully registered with Vancouver Minor Hockey for the 2026-27 season to participate.

All programs are subject to cancellation or amalgamation with another session if there are insufficient registrations.

Skater Camps

Power Skating & Skills Camp

Location: Killarney

Dates: August 17–21, 2026 (Mon–Fri) | 5 Sessions

Age Group: U7–U9

Instructor: Gunnar Wegleitner

Cost: $225.00/player | Limited to 20 participants

Schedule:

U7: 10:00–11:00 AM

U9: 11:00 AM–12:00 PM

These camps focus on developing strong skating fundamentals through edge control, balance, agility, and stride mechanics. Players will build confidence and efficiency in their movement while improving puck control, passing, shooting, and overall hockey skills. Sessions are designed to be fun, engaging, and challenging, creating a positive environment where players can learn, compete, and sharpen their skills.

Power Skating & Skills Camp

Location: Killarney

Dates: August 17–21, 2026 (Mon–Fri) | 5 Sessions

Age Group: U11–U18

Instructor: Gunnar Wegleitner

Cost: $225.00/player | Limited to 20 participants

U11: 12:15–1:15 PM

U13: 1:30–2:30 PM

U15: 2:45–3:45 PM

U18: 4:00–5:00 PM

These camps are designed to help players of all skill levels build a strong foundation in skating and hockey skills. Through a focus on edge control, balance, agility, stride mechanics, puck control, passing, and shooting, players will develop confidence and improve their overall game in a positive and supportive environment. Whether your goal is to learn the fundamentals or refine existing skills, this camp provides an engaging experience that challenges and encourages every player to improve.

Skate to Score Camp

Location: Killarney

Dates: August 24–28, 2026 (Mon–Fri) | 5 Sessions

Age Group: U7/U9

Instructors: Cavin Tilsley & Conner McDonald

Cost: $225.00/player | Limited to 20 participants

This fun, high-energy camp is designed to help young players build the skating and shooting skills they need to create scoring chances. Each session combines edgework, stride development, and puck control with goal-scoring techniques through games and drills. Perfect for U7 and U9 players looking to boost their confidence and creativity on the ice.

Rep Prep Camp

Location: Killarney

Dates: August 24–28, 2026 (Mon–Fri) | 5 Sessions

Age Group: U11–U18

Instructors: Conner McDonald & Cavin Tilsley

Cost: $225.00/player | Limited to 20 participants

U18: 4:00–5:00 PM

This high-intensity camp is designed to prepare players for rep tryouts with a focus on pace, compete level, and execution under pressure. Each session includes skill work, small-area games, and high-rep drills that simulate tryout scenarios. Open to motivated players looking to sharpen their game and make a strong impression this upcoming season.

Goalie Camps

Goalie Camp

Location: Britannia

Dates: August 24–28, 2026 (Mon–Fri) | 5 Sessions

Age Group: U11–U18

Instructor: Jesse Makaj

Cost: $225.00/goalie | Limited to 10 goalies

Schedule:

U11/U18: 2:30–3:30 PM

This goalie clinic is designed to give goaltenders focused instruction on positioning, movement, and rebound control. Led by experienced goalie coaches, the session will include technical drills, situational reps, and competitive play to help sharpen game-ready skills. Open to goalies of all levels looking to elevate their performance between the pipes.

Instructor Bios

Gunnar Wegleitner is a former high-level player with a strong foundation in skill development and performance training. His playing career includes time in the WHL with the Everett Silvertips, Victoria Royals, and Brandon Wheat Kings, along with a stint in the BCHL with the Surrey Eagles, before continuing at the collegiate level with the UBC Thunderbirds. As a coach, Gunnar works with players of all ages, combining technical skill instruction with strength and mobility training to enhance on-ice performance and overall athleticism. He is a valuable addition to VMHA, bringing a well-rounded skill set to help young athletes build strong fundamentals and grow both on and off the ice.

Jesse Makaj is a dedicated goaltending coach with a strong playing background and a passion for developing young goalies. An alumnus of Vancouver Minor Hockey, Jesse went on to play at the North Shore Winter Club before being selected 23rd overall in the WHL Bantam Draft by the Kootenay Ice. He competed in the WHL and most recently played professionally in Latvia's top league. This past season, Jesse suited up for the SFU NCAA travel team. Known for his technical knowledge and ability to connect with young athletes, Jesse has received consistent positive feedback from players, coaches, and families throughout his time working with VMHA goalies. His commitment to goaltending development and experience at elite levels make him a valuable member of the VMHA development team.

Conner McDonald is an experienced coach and former WHL defenseman with 303 games played for the Kamloops Blazers, Edmonton Oil Kings, and Kelowna Rockets, earning 147 points and back-to-back Defenseman of the Year honors. He played four seasons at UBC, serving as assistant captain and competing in two national championships, and is completing his Bachelor of Psychology. With over seven years of coaching experience, Conner specializes in skill development, skating, and high-performance training. Known for his technical eye and attention to detail, he led the VMHA Atom A1 team to a rare Superflight placement during the 2022–23 season.

Cavin Tilsley is an experienced coach and former BCHL captain, having played over 230 games and earning Team MVP and Heart & Soul honors with the West Kelowna Warriors. He holds Power Edge Pro and Hockey Canada Development 1 certifications and brings over eight years of experience in skill development, video analysis, and tactical play. Cavin has coached with the Whalers Development Program, the GV Bulldogs HPL teams, and most recently served as Associate Coach of VMHA's Atom A1 team, helping guide them from Tier 2 to Superflight and into the President's Series Final. He's passionate about developing both the player and the person, with a strong focus on mindset and long-term growth.

Refund Policy

  • 100% Refund: If the association cancels a clinic, you will receive a full refund of your registration fee.
  • 50% Refund: If you cancel your registration 30 or more days before the clinic start date.
  • 25% Refund: If you cancel your registration 14–29 days before the clinic start date.
  • No Refund: If you cancel your registration 13 days or fewer before the clinic start date.
